1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how KountEm ("KountEm," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the KountEm mobile application for iOS and Apple Watch (the "App") and the website at this domain (the "Site"). KountEm is published by Galeano Software Co. ("GSC").
We designed KountEm with privacy as a default. The App is offline-first and stores your tracking data locally on your device. We do not require an account, and we do not collect personal data on our servers as part of normal use.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
When you use the App, you may enter information including:
- Item names, categories, units of measure, target values, time-expiry settings, alert thresholds, recurring schedules, notes, and photos.
- Settings such as preferred language, appearance mode, color theme, and notification preferences.
- Optional natural-language descriptions submitted to the "AI Create" feature.
This information is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. It is not transmitted to us.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
The App itself does not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, or analytics events on our servers. We do not embed third-party advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs.
Apple may collect crash data, diagnostics, and aggregated usage information through standard iOS reporting if you have opted in to "Share with App Developers" in iOS Settings. This data is provided to us in aggregated and anonymized form by Apple and is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
2.3 Photos
When you attach a photo to a tracked item, the photo is stored on your device. Photos are compressed locally for performance and never uploaded to our servers.
2.4 Notifications
If you enable push notifications, the App uses Apple's local-notification system to remind you about alert thresholds and recurring auto-logs. Notification content is generated and delivered locally on your device. We do not maintain a push-notification server.
2.5 AI Features
The "AI Create" and "AI Insights" features may use Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework to interpret natural-language input and generate insights. When on-device models are used, your input does not leave your device. If a feature requires a remote AI service, the App will disclose this in-context and may transmit only the minimum necessary input (such as the text you typed). We do not associate AI requests with personal identifiers.
2.6 Website
The Site may use minimal server logs for security and uptime monitoring (such as IP address, timestamp, and user-agent string). These logs are kept for a short period and are not used for advertising or profiling.
3. How We Use Information
Because most data stays on your device, we use information only for the following limited purposes:
- To operate the features of the App on your device.
- To provide AI features when you actively invoke them.
- To diagnose crashes and bugs (only when Apple shares anonymized diagnostic reports with us, and only if you opted in).
- To respond to your support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We do not use your data for behavioral advertising. We do not profile you across services.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, our legal bases for processing are:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the App's features that you request.
- Legitimate interests — to maintain App security and to fix bugs, in a manner consistent with your privacy expectations.
- Consent — for optional features such as push notifications and AI Create, which you can enable or disable at any time.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.
5. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share your tracked-item data with anyone, because we do not have it. The data lives on your device.
Limited information (such as support email correspondence) may be shared with:
- Service providers who help us operate (for example, an email provider for support), under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- Authorities when required by law, court order, or to protect rights, property, or safety.
- Successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to confidentiality obligations.
6. Third-Party Services
The App may integrate with the following Apple-provided frameworks: SwiftData (local storage), UserNotifications (local alerts), PhotoKit (photo selection), WatchConnectivity (Apple Watch sync), and Foundation Models (on-device AI). Use of these frameworks is governed by Apple's policies.
The Site may link to external sites such as galeanosoftware.com. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites.
7. Data Retention
Data you create in the App remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App removes the local database. We do not retain copies of your data on our servers.
Server logs for the Site, if any, are retained for a maximum of 30 days unless retention is required by law.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information that is in our possession. The App relies on iOS sandboxing and device-level encryption to protect local data. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure; you are responsible for keeping your device, passcode, and iCloud credentials secure.
9. Your Rights
Because your tracked-item data lives on your device, you control it directly:
- Access & Portability — Export your archived items as CSV from within the App.
- Correction — Edit any item, log, note, or setting at any time.
- Deletion — Delete individual items, logs, or photos, or uninstall the App to remove all local data.
- Withdraw consent — Disable notifications, AI features, or any optional feature in Settings.
If you have submitted personal data to us by email or otherwise, you may contact us to exercise the above rights and the additional rights described below in the regional sections.
10. Children's Privacy
KountEm is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. International Users
The App is available worldwide. By using the App, you understand that any limited information you send to us (such as support emails) may be processed in the country where GSC operates. We apply the same baseline privacy standard to all users regardless of location.
12. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know, the right to delete, the right to correct, the right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. KountEm does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
13. EEA & UK Users (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Because we do not collect tracking data on our servers, our holdings related to you are typically limited to any support correspondence you initiate.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, the law, or our practices. We will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted in-App or on this Site.
